Khancoban
Its rare these days to find a band name that is truly representative of a band's sound. Khancoban is a little town in NSW at the foot of the snowies. Apart from beautiful pine forests and snow-capped mountains, it's also a kickarse place to go trout fishing in summer.
Khancoban's music is a combination of both the folksy and the modern. The male lead and female backings fuse effortlessly and the band's instrumental prowess reads like a traveling circus. An assortment of guitars (including a lap steel), banjo, keyboards, cornet, chord organ, violin… Khanoban take a new spin on an ancient genre, and with the help of Audio Engineer, Hugh Counsell (he also did Pitching Woos EP), their music takes on a frosty, blustering atmosphere. Think Decemberists vs Mount Kosciusko. If you can imagine a band of ex-convicts living in the snowies in colonial times, playing gigs for tuppence, this is what they would sound like.
The kicker is that this music comes from inner city Melbourne.

Khancoban are rad Chuckwagon. Very soothing to the ears.
Good to hear they're from Melbourne. I will try and get to one of their gigs. Thanks SClub
