Streetlight - Western Sandwich
Perth, AustraliaFinally Sandwich Club have ventured out to that big deli in the West, Perth. Deliberately searching for some western sambos (yeehahh!) I stumbled across STREETLIGHT. The Perth music scene is alive pulsating at the moment and I for one am like Homer at that seafood restaurant. All you can eat! "Arrrgh... tis not a man, tis a bottomless pit". Once I had gorged my self stupid on the tasty toppings that Perth had to offer I arrived at the conclusion that these guys were the standout. Being a six piece they have a glutton of sound to play with, but don't slather you in the stuff all at once. Their songs have structure and convey a story that involves you in an audio extravaganza of change ups and mood swings. If I didn't know any better I would say that these guys have come from classical music background as they seem to know and play their instruments inside and out. Each sound has its place and leads into the next perfectly. Guitars, Drums, Vocals and Violins fall from the sky and take you on a kaleidoscopic, roller coaster ride of drama and melody. I feel that they draw a lot of influence from The Mars Volta but definately have an incredibly unique sound amongst the masses of Indie Rock at the moment. It is this sound that has allowed Streetlight to take out the NEXT BIG THING AWARD Perth 2006 and driven them to put together their first album that will be out in the months to come. These guys will most certainly make tracks in the scene ahead of them. So watch out. I for one would love to see them create their experimental-progressive rock-indie mash live. It would be a treat. But in the meantime affix your lobes to STREETLIGHT here:
