The Bank Holidays

Perth, Australia
I hate big financial institutions. They hold all my money. I like my money. It's good for buying beer and hookers. But most of all, I hate them cause they have the power to make their own holidays. That's a privilege that should be reserved for 3rd world despots and Santa. Fucking banks and their holidays....

Apologies for the rant. It's wrong of me to make blanket comments like that, after all there is one bank holiday that makes everyone happy. That's the band The Bank Holidays from Perth. They deal in sunny melodic pop, drenched in harmony with some really cool chord progressions. As such, they cite older influences such as The Beach Boys and The Byrds, and draw comparisons to more contemporary bands such as The Shins.

These tunes will cheer you up no matter what the sitch. So next bank holiday when you're outta cashola and the ATM is broken, just put in your headphones and smile....... at the camera while you rob the servo.

And just briefly, on the radio today I heard Okkerville River cover a Wrens track live on TripleJ. My chest constricted and I had a moment. I like Okkerville. Quite a bit actually. But The Wrens, well... Marc Le Sandwiche put me onto them a year or so back, and to put it in context, their 2nd album 'The Meadowlands' is in my top 3 albums of all time with 'OK, Computer' and 'Revolver'. It has has never had an Aussie release, so steal it and then email them incessantly until they come out here to play. You won't be alone.
Here's the song that Okkerville covered.

No I don't think they're releasing for a while Marc. Meadowlands only just got released in Europe this year! Apparently there are a couple of bonus tracks on it though.

You'd be pleased to know though that Pinback just released a whole B-Side album and it's awesome
