From The Archives: Pinky Tuscadero
Sydney, Australia
Pinky Tus-kahh-dare-oh! Is what ran over my tongue and through my lips as I wrote this. Say it to yourself a few times, go on and watch or listen to what happens. Unknowingly you start to pronounce the phrase, not just speak it. Attitude, flare and a certain amount of cool start to ooze from it. Pinky Tus-kahh-dare-oh! Why does this happen? Well, in need of some answers, I hit the net (mmhoi) searching for the phrase that sounded like some 'has been' actor's stage name.
"The result" I hear you ask:
On "Happy Days," Roz Kelly played 'Pinky Tuscadero', Fonzie's biker girlfriend. "On less happy days, you might not want to see her in action again" police say.
Ms. Kelly has been jailed since Nov. 29 last year, when she allegedly grabbed a 12-gauge shotgun and shot up her neighbour's car and apartment after being awakened by a blaring car alarm. Sounds out of contol huh? Well, looking back, if that scene was part of a movie these guys would have to be on the soundtrack... Why?
Making my way down to Sandwich Club's domestic lurk, Candys Apartment, last Friday night, my fellow bloggers and I witnessed one 'outta' control, but extremely tasty, sandwich. Pinky Tuscadero. Try to imagine being drawn directly to the front of a room by a stage musical with punk rock A.D.D (yes it is a diagnosable condition) . Instantly we were amazed as their frontwoman howled, poured and projected her show stopping voice into our ears with enough 'cool' to snap freeze Fonzie's cucumber. A constant theatrical presence was maintained by Pinky Tuscadero's troupe as they lit up the stage with a boom crash punk score and antics to match. At the end of the set, I needed a cigarette, and I don’t even smoke. All I can say is anyone gotta light?
