A lunch break with Vespers

When anyone asks me to recommend a few Sydney bands I always mention the name Vespers. They've been one of my favourite bands in the local scene for the better part of the year and I always look forward to seeing their gigs. In describing their music picture Interpol with Dave Larkin from Dallas Crane on vox. Being quite the fan of both, it makes for an incredible sound.
So we decided to have a bit of fun with the Vespers... here are some funny Q&A from the band:
How would you describe your music?
Hold your breath for 40 seconds and think of nachos. If rock is your breath it is far more a priority than even delicious distractions.
It would seem that some bands approach their music more like a business, rather than artists. Has there ever been a time when you've felt this happening to yourselves?
Sure - although we decided that selling our bodies was a far too exhausting before gigs. Besides, being a 'starving artist' is a powerful image to help sell shit.
Is it a good time to be playing live music in Australia at the moment?
Absolutely, there are venues with nights specifically catering to rock. However as is our inclination to pursue our art we'd be playing even if rock bands were reviled and targeted by bounty hunters. Even then we're not above offering our bodies as bribes to said bounty hunters.
Who would be in your ultimate band and why?
Hannibal Barca, Scipio Africanus, Alcibiades and Rodney Dangerfield. Even if they all played recorders and kazoos, who gives a shit? They would have wild boar and novelty ties in their rider.
Your most uncool musical indulgence?
Skeet shooting CDs by acts we dislike from the bow of Vespers corp's oil tanker.
If your band was an animal, what would it be?
Animal from the Muppets. Nuff said.
Your favourite Sandwich?
John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, cool guy by all accounts

And Teddybears... they're cute, cuddly and apparently they rock. This Stockholm based trio make music that cross so many genres it's impossible to place in any category. There's pop, rock, metal and electro all mashed up into an awesome unique sound. Here's a little remix track featuring Iggy Pop on vox... show your Teddybears some love again.

Haha yes... me too.
I love that movie.
[a jukebox begins playing Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now" while the zombie Pub owner attacks the group]
Shaun: Who the hell put this on?
Ed: It's on random.
Liz: For f***'s sake!
Shaun: David, kill the Queen!
David: What?
Shaun: The jukebox!

Iggy Pop!
Fuck that guy rules. That song he did with the Teddybears is grouse.
For a guy who looks 80, he was so good at the big day out.
