Fire Santa Rosa Fire! Death from Above 1979 Remixed! & Of Montreal's New Single! Golly Gosh!
Adelaide, South AustraliaOntario, Canada
Georgia, USA
The tastiest late night indie eatery!
My favourite velcro kicks are beer soaked, my jeans mysteriously damp in the crotch region, my t-shirt is yellowed and blackened resembling the colours I drank the night before, my head hurts and guess what! I had one of the best nights ever! Thanks to Marching Room, Dance With Voices, Tokyo Blonde, Bird Automatic and Papa vs Pretty for making last nights Sandwich Club the most impressive yet!
I think the best way to describe the night's proceedings and mood would be through song as I have lost a good portion of my brain mass to the night's thumping good tunes and pumping good drinks....in other words Im too hung over.
Early on the crowds flocked and the scent of freshly baked indie was in the air. The mood would have to be best described by my most frequently repeated song in my iTunes playlists at the moment:
MP3: Fire Santa Rosa Fire - "Captain Thunderhearts Mistress Ice"
Fire Santa Rosa Fire first lured me into their world of tweaky indie pop when I came across their beautiful imagery on their myspace. Their Ep artwork was stunning and as I had my first taste of their music I found that their artistic skills did not finish there. This unsigned band from Adelaide had me dreaming of frolicking in the most beautiful of 'indiesque' fields hand in hand with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Rapture, Of Montreal and Death From Above 1979.
As morning crept a little closer, band members who played earlier were milling in the crowd as the vibe reached its peak. Smiles were in abundance. The time to dance had come.....
MP3: Death From Above 1979 - "Little Girl" (MSTRKRFT Edition)
Worn out and thirsty the crowds flocked to the bar and the night prepared itself for entry into a dream like state. With enough of a good thing we were caught in a labyrinth of beats, synth and fantasy. The best way to describe it would be to listen to Of Montreal and their new single from the forthcoming album 'Hissing Fauna Are You The Destroyer' (to be released 23 January, 2007):
MP3: Of Montreal - "Heimdalsgate Like a Promeathean Curse"
The result? Ears ringing, tummies rumbling and voices failing. And me? Leaning
A great night was had by all. Now where is my blanky.
One more thing!
A special note has to be made to the backroom band that stole the show and got away scott free (so they could get to school on time the next day!). Papa vs Pretty are a juvenile four piece with talent far beyond their early teenage years. The familiar riff of Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" snuck around the glass doors and tempted the masses into the backroom of Candys with bewildered smiles on their faces as they discovered what was delivering such a solid all round performance. What I couldnt figure out at the end of it all was where all the fairy bread sandwiches had gone. At least the boys wont go hungry at school tomorrow. Well done lads! Have a listen and download these guys you wont be disappointed!

Yes chuckie its called 'grooze'. It seeps from your pores and permeates from your breath and puts a brown stinky haze over your eyes. Sean I missed out on meeting you again, apoligies. Next time I promise to take off my Zorro mask.
