And the Fly has not officially been dropped. From their myspace:

LIKE ALEX INSTEAD OF ALEXANDER, DAVE INSTEAD OF DAVID, DAPPLED INSTEAD OF DAPPLED CITIES, NED INSTEAD OF EDWARD, TIM INSTEAD OF TIMOTHY AND HUGH INSTEAD OF HUGH.
If we'd changed our name we would have told people.

I think it's very Australian to drop the last bit of a name. My last name is Hutchinson but most people call me Hutch. Actually many more call me Hutcho so it's even more aussie to put some kind of vowel on the end (even Austalian is Aussie). Maybe they should really be called Dappled Citieso...
