Holidays On Ice

Sydney, Australia
Being a half caste Canadian, I've spent many a holidays on ice. It's cold, wet and unless you're spending the season skiing, it's damn miserable. Despite this, there are strange folk who actually enjoy winter (in fact I'm sure they're the ones who like cats too... why?). So when I received a copy of Sydney band Holidays On Ice's debut album, Playing Boyfriend and Girlfriends I was slightly pessimistic. Ice does not mean happy.
Well what a surprise, there was more holiday than ice and this album is a cracker. Happy lofi indie pop anthems spew forth from the stereo and I'm overcome with euphoria. Life is great, cats are good. Hmm... perhaps I've gone too far.
Such a happy band could be fronted by none other than the gorgeous Angie Hart of Frente! fame. Yes, Frente! The ex-happiest band in the world. Also fronting the band is Dean Manning of Leonardo's Bride - a stellar cast of who was once who and is now who in the Australian indie scene.

Check out these little numbers and if you like, order a copy of Playing Boyfriends and Girlfriends from Inertia.... and, if you really, really like, buy Frente!'s debut Marvin the Album. If you can get over 'Accidentally Kelly Street' you'll realise what a classic it really is.

Also big congrats to The Watt Riot. They've won Triple J's Eagles of Death Metal competition and will be supporting the band when the play in Sydney.
