Ahh… another long weekend. Three days of beer, music and sleep. So what marks the occasion for the public holiday? Well it’s our favourite Queen’s birthday. The funny thing is no one really gives a damn about the Queen this far away from the motherland that is
Great Britain (say that in your best pompous voice with your chest out and nose up). It’s not even the Queen’s real birthday anyway, that’s on the 21
st of April (good for pub trivia and you can impress your friends with your array of useless facts). I can imagine the discussions they have in
Buckingham Palace. “Your Majesty, the Australian’s want to become a republic.” “We can’t have that, give them another public holiday.” “Smashing idea your Majesty – I will put it to little John right away.” “Oh, and Tony, make sure it’s during the middle of winter when it’s cold and wet just to remind those pesky Australians of where they came from.”
