Sunset Rubdown was so like eaarrrly 2006

Montreal, Canada
I thought I heard the new Wolf Parade song today... nup. I could have sworn it was. No it was Sunset Rubdown; a side project for Wolf Parade's frontman, the unfortunately named Spencer Krug.
Mental note: must get that album.
On the walk to work browsing through iPod, looking for Spoon: SUNSET RUBDOWN.
A slap on the forehead later. 'Of course... I have that!' The weekend I bought that album must have been a big one - the alcohol induced coma probably wiped out the little neurons that had 'You have Sunset Rubdown and you should listen to it because it's cool' imprinted on them.
Better late than never I guess.
For those of you who've never heard Spencer's whaling voice then you're missing out. Admittedly I was weirded out when I first heard Wolf Parade - that voice is fucking strange. However the man and the band grew on me and finally they now rest in the treasured spot of personal faves.
Sunset Rubdown is like Okkervil River meets, well, Wolf Parade. Enjoy these on a blistering hot Friday: thank god for air conditioning!

Also this is the first time in 5 years I decided not to buy a Big Day Out ticket. Personally, I think the lineup sucks. A festival I am excited about though is the St Jeromes Laneway Festival. I mean just look at the calibre of the last St Jeromes:
The Avalanches, Les Savy Fav (USA), Broken Social Scene (CAN), The Raveonettes (Sweden), Pretty Girls Makes Graves (USA), The Hold Steady (USA), The Posies (USA), The Gossip (USA), Decoder Ring, Jens Lekman (Sweden), Faker, Wolf and Cub, New Buffalo, Art of Fighting, Clare Bowditch and The Feeding Set, Gersey, Pivot, Darren Hanlon, Mercy Arms, The Pop Frenzy Sound Unit and The Drones.

And a festival can only get bigger and better right? (maybe not in the case of BDO) Anyway from the rumours I've been hearing, expect a pretty stellar lineup... I'll keep you posted as soon as the acts are confirmed.

Oct 20 for the Laneway Lineup announcement!

BDO is hands down THE worst festival in australia. Overpriced, overpopulated, and full of dior-wearing wannabees and southern-cross tattooed buffoons.
"GO 'STRAYAAAAAAAAAA!"

never ever going ever again.
Damn wannabee's.

Jens Lekman at laneway, however, was unforgettable.

love that shot of the les savy fav lead. right after this shot he proceeded to absail down that 5 mtr high wall using his mic cord. an all time festival moment!
bald and fat in red paint and dickstickers.. my hero.

and from what i know about laneway this year, it should (deservedly) be a sellout. although last year it should have been also..

Nah I'm out for BDO... Although I don't mind Tool (shhh. don't tell anyone) and would like to see them one day - them at a festival with the ten thousand bogans who missed out on tool tickets just doesn't do it for me... and I know BDO isn't on Australia Day this year but I'm looking forward to frickin backyard cricket, beers, bbq and triple j's hottest 100. I haven't done that in yonks.

Spank Rock would have been cool - maybe their sideshow

Apparently the BDO has sold out. Less than a day and not really that brilliant a lineup. The only act so far I'd go see at a sideshow would be the Violent Femmes and I might not.
What's the rumours for Laneway? If it's half as good as Meredith's lineup I will be there for sure.

One act whistles ;)

Another one is almost definitely Temper Trap considering it's on the Festival's MySpace page.

I'm assuming the Glasgow act will be Camera Obscura cause they're on Popfrenzy and Mogwai and Belle and Sebastian have toured recently.

Franz Ferdinand.. lol..

ahem.. "first time in 5 years"? hmm im sorry to say that is just not true. anyway.. my theory: too many people are going to festivals, therefore it is unnecessary for promoters to book big bands.. thus they book shit acts to save money and we all suffer.
