The Sea Thieves

My New Years View

Adelaide, South Australia
Heads are swelling with the dull crack of fireworks, the doof doof of commercial $150-a-day dropkick fests and the amber river of pain we insert into our bodies as we usher in the new year is now seeping from our pores. Im tired. I feel left behind by the fire filled water that was lapping at the foreshore last year (technically).Yesterday, in some sort of effort to go back in time to the thirty-first I cued The Sea Thieves as the next track. A resonating saw (yes the one used by lumberjacks!) blended with soft buoyant lyrics and lazy beat that kept me afloat for the rest of the day. This unsigned boy / girl duo from Adelaide provide the perfect seachange from the polluted carnage of the senses that is New Years Day with a crossbred sound somewhere between Sparklehorse, The Shins and Yo La Tengo. They have evolved from the days of 'Eldertown' and contain a certain ability to project the enjoyment they get from making their music into your ears. As a result of this I feel compelled to blurt a Happy New Year everybody! This year we hope to make more friends, enjoy more music and taste more sandwiches than ever before. Will you join us?

stuey, your reviewing is of such an enjoyable demur (if that is a word, let alone the word with the meaning i attach to it)..that i simply want to invent the job of a critic who critiques other critics just so i can give you a meaningful 5 stars. and thanks, the sea thieves are now helping me into the new year too. tasty tasty!

Yes sir Spoz and with you being an 'Adelaidian' you would have enjoyed many a tune from these guys, glad we share something in common, thanks for tasting. Now to you 'anonymous' we are glad that we bring you such joy. Thankyou for your kind words. You have just put a smile on my sunburnt face. Keep tasting!
