Summer Cats

Brisbane, Australia

I like Jack White. But that prick made me buy a can of coke when I would have preferred a lemonade. I like Dylan, but that old wash up made me wear ladies panties, and now the doctors say I cant have children. So you can understand my caution upon first hearing Summer Cats and their song Hush Puppy. The last thing I needed was a catchy tune hijacking my subconscious and convincing me to waste my money on a pair of shoes i didnt need. It is summer in Australia after all, and tough bare feet are essential for an annual encounter with hot roads and the evil bindii (foreigners beware, these nasties are more dangerous than drop-bears).
But, alas, when one tinny demo from a little known Brissy band can muster up a 3.5/5 on Pitchfork, I was willing to listen and risk subliminal suicide. But, believe me, the music is worth it. The band has great potential and I fear, with a little studio time, they may well inspire a vigorous consumption of both their sound and their brand of shoes.
