UK charts now include downloads

United Kingdom
I was just reading an interesting little piece on changes to the ranking system used for the UK charts. In quite a shakeup to UK music, the charts now include downloaded songs (legal or otherwise) which literally puts the charts into the hands of the music lovers rather than labels. There are some interesting results here. For example artists such as Snow Patrol, Gnarls Barkley and Nelly Furtado with releases way back in 2005 and early 2006 are now boasting postitions back in the charts. I wasn't able to find anything on whether Australia would adopt a similar ranking system but fingers crossed - an Icehouse revival may be imminent.
