Wally de Backer

If there's one thing that gives us the warm and fuzzies here at sandwich club, it's seeing local acts get the international recognition they deserve. All too often the best in Australian indie music fails to catch the ear of listeners in far away lands. But with ambassadors like Wally de Backer, and vigilant sentinels, like ShiftedSound.com, the future of independent Australian music is certainly getting brighter.
Shifted Sound is a US podcast scanning the globe for the best in new independent music. The latest episode is dedicated to our own Wally de Backer, who we all know by now as the mastermind behind Gotye and The Basics.
Wally describes the evolution of his interest in music, his devotion to musical independence, and his admiration for fellow musical 'bozo' Faux Pas, and the 'virtuosity' of heavy metal Western Australians, Karnivool.
The episode is available for download at Shiftedsound.com, and well worth a listen. Also, see if you can spot any other Aussies in the archives ; )
